A rest room attendant at a Swansea bar has been arrested by Home Office immigration enforcement officers.

They carried out the operation at the No Sign Bar in Wind Street.

It is thought the man, a 30-year-old from Nigeria, was operating as a freelancer.

The bar owners said they were shocked by the incident.

Officers visited the popular bar at 10.40pm last Saturday.

They said the man was found to have overstayed his visa.

Gavin Griffiths, from the Wales Home Office immigration enforcement team, said: "This arrest is a clear warning to those in South Wales abusing our immigration laws.

"There will be no let up in our work to arrest, detain and remove you from the UK.

"I would urge anyone with detailed and specific information about suspected immigration abuse to get in touch."

No Sign Bar owner Becky Oliver said: "He was not employed by us. We have used toilet attendants before through an agency.

" Our staff assumed he was employed through an agency.

"He just turned up and set up in the toilets.

"Staff assumed he was legitimate. There is no way we would employ anyone who was contravening the law.

"I was there and was mortified when an officer asked if we could talk."
