WHAT COLOR IS THIS DRESS??? #thedress

The “what color is this dress” debate is far from over, as people all over the world have taken a look at a picture of a fairly hideous looking dress, and have been forced to see whatever their eyes will see. Is it white and gold? Is is blue and black? Or is it some mixture of the two colors? And if you’re colorblind? Consider yourself lucky.

According to Wired, people are seeing different colors when it comes to this dress because of how the light is reacting with the eye. Some people see different pigments, which is totally understandable, but no one can seem to get over why this is happening. This huge social experiment has totally gone viral.

“Light enters the eye through the lens—different wavelengths corresponding to different colors. The light hits the retina in the back of the eye where pigments fire up neural connections to the visual cortex, the part of the brain that processes those signals into an image.”

Buzzfeed began asking “what colors are this dress” on Thursday, and people adamantly took sides. Now known just as “#thedress,” pretty much everyone has posted something about the darn thing, and what it looks like to them. And it didn’t take too long for celebrities to get involved either.

Now, before you read some of their tweets, it is important to note that the dress is indeed blue and black according to the Inquisitr. The girl who actually purchased the dress and wore it to a friend’s wedding confirmed the actual color. Still, some 70 percent of people see the dress as white and gold.
