Police are hunting for two men who tried to abduct a six-year-old boy as he played in the street.

The young boy was riding his bike with his eight-year-old brother in a street in Romford, north-east London, when he was approached by a man who got out of a "dirty white van" at around 12pm on Saturday.

The man grabbed the child as a second man opened the doors of the van.

The screaming boy managed to break free and run away from the scene in Harebell Way.

Officers have now stepped up patrols in the area as the search for the would-be child snatchers continues.

The first man is described as white, bald, short facial stubble and was aged in his 30s. He was also wearing a black T-shirt and black trousers.

The second suspect is described as white, aged in his mid-30s, with brown hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt.

Detective Chief Inspector Denise Johnson urged parents to remind their children about the dangers of talking to strangers.

High visibility patrols have been increased in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

I would always ask parents to remind children about the importance of not talking to or going with strangers.
– DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR DENISE JOHNSON
