A Scotland Yard statement released Monday morning said: “On Tuesday December 1, police were called following a report of an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store in Waverley Crescent, SE18.

“The suspect walked into the shop at 4.35pm with his hood up and his face partially covered.

“He approached the front counter armed with a handgun and demanded money, but when he was disturbed made off empty handed.”

The failed robber then made off in the direction of Brewery Road.

Officers describe the suspect as “a black man” who was wearing “a bright red hooded top, a black flat cap and a scarf” on the afternoon in question.

The suspect was also holding a “white carrier bag with a logo saying ‘THINK’” at the time.
