Student Crowned Miss Jamaica UK 2015

Jasmine May, 17, beat off competition from 12 contestants whose parents hail from the Caribbean island

STUDENT JASMINE May was crowned Miss Jamaica UK 2015 after receiving a majority of the votes from the judges at the 26th staging of the event in Central London on Sunday (Dec 13).

The 17-year-old, whose parents hail from the parish of Portland on the island, will be an ambassador for the annual beauty pageant for a year.

Taking second place was Rica Kelly, 29, a teacher whose parents are from Westmoreland, while third place went to Chrishauna Champagnie, 19, a law student whose parents are from the parish of Kingston.

The original line-up of 12 contestants were whittled down to six semi-finalists before Jasmine May emerged as the overall winner.

The contestants first appeared in casual wear before they came back for the popular swim wear section and later dazzled in a variety of evening wear.

Another semi-finalist , Chreena Miller, 26, scooped up the most sectional prizes as she won Best Talent, Best Body Tone and voted Best Model for Positive Runway.

Comperes for the evening were Andrew Clunis and Deneez Peters and entertainment was provided by reggae sensation Savanna, Hali I and The McKoy Family.

Miss Jamaica UK is beauty pageant open to women in the UK of Jamaican heritage. Each year, contestants from across the country compete to win the coveted title.
