Woman Travels From Nigeria To New York To Deliver Triplets

AN EXPECTANT mother travelled more than 8,000km to give birth to triplets.

Nigerian-native Temitope Alao came all the way to Brooklyn, New York, to deliver her healthy triplets on Thursday morning (Feb 11).

Alao had been trying to conceive for about six years, and at about eight months into her pregnancy, she gave birth to two boys and a bouncing baby girl, New York Daily News reported.

The 34-year-old welcomed a girl, Temiloluwa, meaning “God belongs to me” and two boys, Oluwafikayomi and Ifeoluwa, meaning, “God has increased my joy” and “God’s love,” respectively. They each weighed three pounds.

Both of the babies’ grandmothers were in the delivery room, including the new mother’s mother-in-law, Afolake Alao, 58, a longtime registered nurse at Woodhull Medical Center in Brookly. TheNew York Daily News reported that Afolake insisted that her daughter-in-law come to the United States for the delivery.

“I knew she would get good care here,” said Afolake.

Temitope’s trip to New York involved a 13-hour flight with a layover in Paris; the babies will return to Nigeria when they are old enough to travel.
