Manchester Bogus Student Visa Scam Smashed!

Three people have been arrested in south Manchester as part of an investigation into illegal immigration.

A man, 31, and woman, 32, were arrested at an address in Stanley Grove, Longsight and a 24-year-old man was arrested at an address in Wilbraham Road, Chorlton by immigration enforcement officers and the National Crime Agency early on Wednesday morning.

They were being held on suspicion of conspiracy to facilitate a breach of immigration law and money laundering.

The investigation centres on a suspected fraud operation using bogus colleges to bring non-EU nationals into the country on student visas.

A further seven people were arrested in Sheffield and London and officers also seized a significant amount of cash.

Dave Magrath, from Home Office Immigration Enforcement Criminal Investigations, said: “We are determined to crack down on all forms of immigration crime.

“These arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into the suspected abuse of the student visa system.”

Suspected immigration abuse can be reported to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
