Croydon Denies Taking Revenge On The French

Croydon Council has denied taking revenge on the French for remarks made about the town, where France's World Cup rugby squad is staying.

It comes after the French team bus caught the attention of a traffic warden while parked at a bus stop.

The warden was photographed by Dan Hicks of London rock band Mordecai, who posted the image on Twitter.

It was accompanied by the words: "Welcome to Croydon, Team France!! #ParkingTicket".

Mr Hicks said later: "I rode past on my motorbike and saw the bus had the French team name and initials on the side and saw the ticket inspector.

"The opportunity was too good to miss so I turned around to get the photo."

A spokesman for the French national side said he was "not aware" of the incident, which reportedly took place on Wednesday outside the Apatura restaurant in Croydon.
