Blood Rain To Hit UK This Week

A bout of toxic smog and so-called 'blood rain' is set to hit the UK this week.

The worst affected areas are thought to be southern and central England, and health issues have been issued to asthma sufferers.

However, contray to prediction, air pollution levels in Burton and South Derbyshire appear to only be at a moderate level according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

High level warnings have been issued in eastern England, while only a level three warning has been issued for the area.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Director of Advice for Asthma UK, Andrew Proctor, warned asthma sufferers to stay indoors in some areas of the country

He said: "People with asthma need to take extra care.

"We are facing a perfect storm of asthma triggers, with air pollution and weather changes increasing the risk of potentially fatal asthma attacks for millions of people with the condition.

"Two thirds of people with asthma find that air pollution makes their asthma worse, and even more tell us that changes in the winter weather can trigger asthma attacks."

The warm air sweeping in from Africa is expected to see air temperatures rise to around 17 degrees and cause heavy storms to form later in the week.
