Londoner ‘with two names’ charged over ‘malicious Facebook messages

A north London man has been charged with malicious communications over Facebook messages he allegedly sent to an MP, Scotland Yard said.

Craig Wallace, also known as Muhammad Mujahid Islam, 23, will appear at Hendon Magistrates’ Court in London Monday.

Wallace, of Teignmouth Road in Willesden Green, north London, was arrested at his home and remains in police custody until his court appearance.

Scotland Yard declined to name the MP, but said the politician does not represent a London constituency.

Wallace allegedly sent the malicious message last Thursday, the day after MPs voted to authorise airstrikes on IS in Syria.

A number of MPs, many of them in the Labour Party, complained to police that they had received death threats after voting in favour of airstrikes.

Neil Coyle, the MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, said police had stationed extra officers outside his surgery after he received what seemed to be a death threat on social media and Stella Creasy, MP for Walthamstow, was on the receiving end of some terrifying Tweets
