TF FIRDAY BREEDERS CUP TREBLE

Timeform pick out their three best bets on the opening day of the Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs on Friday evening...

#2 Soldier's Call - Churchill Downs R5 (19:21 GMT)

Soldier's Call has had a stellar season for young trainer Archie Watson, winning four times against his own age group as well as running with credit against his elders in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp last time. With a good draw towards the inside, he is ideally berthed to use his early speed, and ought to take plenty of catching if able to operate on the slowest ground he will have encountered to date.

#6 Newspaperofrecord - Churchill Downs R6 (20:00 GMT)

Chad Brown has won this race four times, including the last two years, and has strong claims of winning yet again with this exciting daughter of Lope de Vega. Unbeaten in two starts at Saratoga and Belmont, Newspaperofrecord was particularly impressive when winning the Grade 2 Miss Grillo Stakes last time, coming home six and a half lengths clear of Varenka. Another positive is Newspaperofrecord's early pace, which should put her in an ideal position from what looks a decent draw in stall six.

#14 Anthony Van Dyck - Churchill Downs R8 (21:22 GMT)

Since its inaugural running in 2007, the Juvenile Turf has fallen the way of European-trained horses on seven occasions. Of those seven, Aidan O'Brien has been responsible for four of them, and in Anthony Van Dyck he sends out probably the most talented individual he has targeted at this race to date. He does need to overcome a wide draw, but Ryan Moore is adept in these kind of situations, and such is Anthony Van Dyck's class edge that he may just be too good for this field no matter what.
