2020 Sun Met Best Bet - Hawwaam

Hawwaam is undoubtedly the superstar of the South African racing scene who, until two weeks ago in the Grade One Queen's Plate had one five-straight races including two wins at Grade One level, another at Grade Two level and a listed event.

The credentials of this horse cannot be denied, but one thing we do know is he's temperamental and likes things to be efficient at the barriers. Last start there was a massive delay, which we believe hindered his chances significantly.

Barring another unforeseen delay, Hawwaam should be composed, calm and driving this field into the ground en route to a stint overseas.

2020 Sun Met Value Bet - Do It Again

The winner of the Durban July, Do It Again put in a poor performance in the Queen's Plate earlier in January.

Trainer Justin Snaith stated that he believes the horse could have been a bilary carrier after being bitten by a tick in the lead up to that event, which would explain the sixth placed finish.

Snaith said that the recovery of the Grade One winner had been remarkable leading into the Sun Met after being rated no better than a 50:50 chance a week ago. Proven G1 performers are worth taking on in the big races and Do It Again looks to be great value at the double figure quote.

If he's anywhere near full fitness he'll be fighting out the Sun Met finish.
