100 Missing As Boat Capsizes In Kebbi!

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed that as many as 100 people are missing following a boating accident near Corner Libata Ingaski, a border town between Kebbi and the State of Niger.




The agency’s director general (NSEMA) Ahmed Inga, told NAN that the passengers, who are believed to be mostly women and children, were on their way from Niger to Kebbi on Wednesday morning when the ship capsized.

Inga said the boat carried more than 180 passengers and most of the passengers were from Kebbi on their way to a market.

According to him, the accident was due to the overload and the condition of the boat, adding that more than 20 people had been rescued and four bodies found.

Inga added that search and rescue operations were underway by maritime police and other agencies.


Reacting, President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement by his senior special assistant on media and advertising, Garba Shehu expressed his sadness at the capsizing of the boat.

He offered his sincere condolences to the families of those affected by the tragedy.

“As efforts continue to recover more survivors, the president expressed his gratitude to all who participated in the rescue efforts.”
