UK Furlough Scheme Tapers

The number of people on furlough is at its lowest level since the pandemic began, dropping by half a million in June. The coronavirus job retention scheme enters its penultimate month in August, with employers paying 20% of furloughed staff’s wages and the government contributing 60%. That rate continues until the end of September when the scheme ends. The data showed jobs in hospitality and retail are moving off the scheme the fastest, with those in arts and the creative industries now the most likely to remain furloughed.
